Get Smart—Willingly Reengineer Your Very Own Mind

Written by UI-Staff

I’ve been in love with Seed magazine since I discovered it a few years ago. Not only does it expound and explain the radical transformations that are steering scientific thought- it does so in a way that allows even a bonehead like myself (easily distracted by pretty designs and interesting information graphics) to understand the social, economic, artistic, and political implications of seemingly obscure discoveries and concepts in the scientific community.

Their editorial system is brilliantly tagged, allowing the user to move through content according to interest and train-of-thought, perusing subjects like happiness and systems theory while avoiding pandemics and neuroscience.

I am not scientific; I’m a storyteller who likes to actually be well informed about the world, while tandemly cross-breeding rational thoughts and theories to entertain myself. Personally I like to use the logic of real scientists to devise completely crack-potted theories about how particle physics can explain rake and aura repair—providing hours of personal entertainment and outlandish conversation for all.

The actual physical edition of Seed Magazine is probably the prettiest science you will ever look at (from a designer’s perspective). I may be one of the few who still actually enjoys reading real magazines and newspapers—Sunday morning cup of coffee and Macintosh just isn’t the same as laying in the yard with a well-thumbed magazine or newspaper. The subject matter is brilliant, the illustrations are thought provoking, and the typography is fantastic.
