I have recently been on the look-out, gathering and bookmarking font families that I want/need to add to my collection. My dream is to have the perfect collection of typefaces at my disposal. Being a huge fan of Hoefler & Frere-Jones, the past few releases have me drooling, eager to try each one, any chance I get. However, the recently released Eames collection by House Industries had me feeling different.

Being a huge fan of Hoefler & Frere-Jones, the past few releases have me drooling, eager to try each one, any chance I get. However, the recently released Eames collection by House Industries had me feeling different.

When I first laid eyes on the sweet collection of 26 fonts, it left me breathless. Everything from the delicate, beautifully adorned thin italics to the demanding but playful stencils left me with a feeling of certainty: this was love at first sight. On top of the wide variety of carefully crafted weights are four numeral fonts, three frame fonts, a collection of beautiful and fun ornaments, and a wonderful collection of elephantine, woodcut-inspired poster numerals! At this point I could hardly concentrate on anything else as I dreamed up all the things I could do with this well-rounded collection. To be honest, I’m not sure how useful it may prove itself to be in everyday operation, but it truly looks to be the fun, playful, and despite its quirkiness, versatile collection that I have been looking for.

This is the whole package; everything a designer could want in a font collection is here. All this and I even forgot to mention the wonderful package it comes in! The special first copies will come protected in a chunk of furniture grade plywood with one of 30 random designs in hand printed, air-dried inks. This is an amazing collection and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
