Branding a Basketball Team

UPDATE Nº 4: Wildcats make it to the Sweet 16! They beat Texas in dramatic fashion last night in Tulsa, OK, 70-69 on a three-point play in the final seconds. Man, I can't believe it, what an amazing game. Below are some more images of the Cats in blue, as the uni's looked super sharp on HD TV. New photos by Kelly Presnell from the Arizona Daily Star.

UPDATE Nº 3: Debut of red away alternate uniforms in the loss against USC. It was their first loss in 8 games, I don't think they should wear the red anymore, as they are 3-0 in blue and 0-1 in red.

UPDATE Nº 2: The new UA basketball locker room.

The 're' brand of the UA basketball team continues with a completely new look to the home locker room of McKale Center. This is the first revonation since the early 90s and its great to see such thematic continuity here. If I was 18 and had mad skills, and was looking for a place to play college ball, this might make me interested in going here. Championship trophy, plush seating, Herman Miller chairs, cherry wood lockers–this is big-time stuff. There is even more backstory here.

I've been a fan since childhood–have seen lots of uniforms come and go, I gotta say I love this new design, the shirts are really top-notch; they remind me of the recent USA soccer uniforms. The new uniforms are 30% lighter than the previous ones and contain laser cuts in the shorts to quickly wick away sweat.

It's also nice to see a little refresh of the brand as well, with a slightly updated look since the Lute Olson era.

Lute could never quite get rid of this old cactus logo.

And finally, I'm glad to see a little bit of (subtle) history incorporated into the back shirt detail. GO CATS!
