Alright, I’ll admit it. I’m addicted to social media. Whether on my phone or on my computer, I am constantly cruising the social Web updating not only my networks, but also listening to what my friends are saying, looking for breaking news, cool pictures, entertainment, the latest deals, and the list goes on. I spend the majority of my time on Twitter, followed by Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and the rest, so when I stumbled upon (no pun intended) this infographic a few weeks ago, the data caught my attention for a couple reasons.
Google+ burst into the social sphere with the potential to be Facebook’s biggest rival, and while it has managed to register 90 million users, it is a virtual ghost town. As visitors log hours on Facebook, Google+ only gets an average of 3 minutes per user per visit. Even our old friend MySpace is beating Google+. That’s saying something.
Pinterest, the new kid on the block, has gained popularity for it’s visual pinboards, and, no surprise, gets nearly an hour and a half of a user’s precious social time. What is surprising is Twitter clocks in at only 21 minutes. Maybe I’m just a Twitter-fiend, but I find it odd that more people aren’t spending more time on the the social network that introduced hashtags, @-tags and it’s 140-character limit.
While Tumblr and LinkedIn are continuing steady growth in the social sphere, the minutes seem pretty accurate.
