Let’s just say I’ve spent my fair share of time on Facebook and I know a few tricks of the trade. Brace yourself for five little Facebook secrets.
1. Go Offline To People You Don’t Want To Talk To
Just because you have 1,000+ friends on Facebook, doesn’t mean you want to chat with every single one of them when you’re online. To avoid the awkward small talk, click on the person’s name in the chat window, as if you were about to start a conversation. Then, hit the cog icon in the top-right corner.
From the menu, click “Go Offline.” Voilà, gone in less than 60 seconds.
2. Audit Your Apps
Applications on Facebook have A LOT of access to your personal data. Whether you know it or not, most of those apps have permission to post on your behalf. Case in point:
Here’s how to fix it:
Go to “Account Settings” then click “Apps.” (Surprised at how many apps have access to your page?)
Click on an app, and you’ll have the option to change the settings so that it cannot post on your behalf or you can remove the app completely.
3. Reposition Photos
Did Facebook crop out the best part of your photo? Click on the pencil icon in the top-right corner and then click “Reposition Photo.” Drag the photo to a better position then click “Save.”
4. Enable https:// To Keep Your Facebook Secure
For ultimate privacy settings, enable https:// to ensure securing browsing. Go to “Account Settings” and click “ Security.” In the first section, check mark “Secure Browsing.”
You’ll thank me later when a hacker tries to hijack your account.
5. Edit Your Comments
Facebook finally caught on to one of Google+’s greatest features… letting you edit your comments! Whether it’s grammatical errors, typos, or messing up the punch line of the joke, you can now go back and edit without having to delete and start over.
Hover over your comment until the pencil icon shows on the right side. Click “Edit” and make your changes.
