Happy Thursday! But, more importantly, Happy 2nd Annual Air Max Day!

I’m rocking my Air Max Ultra Moire I’s today, but wish I could get my hands on the just released Air Max Zero. It’s based on a 29-year-old found sketch from über Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, and it’s looking really sharp.

Fusing old styling with new technology, these kicks couldn’t be more stylish. Every detail is well-thought-out and the toe is something new I haven’t seen from Nike since the Sock Racer. It’s a contemporary version of the Air Max I. The contrasting color choice, materials used, and silhouette all look fantastic—and those laces are great, the little flashes of reflectivity are a nice surprise.

Hatfield designed a shoe so ahead of its time it couldn’t be constructed in 1985. The materials and technology weren’t advanced enough to execute the original version. So, the design was shelved, in favor of the more famous Air Max I. But, a recent visit to the Nike Design archives unearthed this sketch, and the process began. Graeme McMillian was tasked with bringing Air Max Zero to life and he did a wonderful job in recreating the sketch and making a great shoe that has already sold out online and in most stores.
